While in the park, Badir sees what he thinks is a big rat in the pond. It turns out to be a beaver. Some people don't want it there because it will damage the trees in the park. Badir and his friends want to keep the beaver safe in its current home. They come together to find a solution and in the process Badir learns a lot about Canada's national symbol while engaging in environmental activism. Man, Orca Echoes has been knocking it out of the park with good stories lately. Badir is a new immigrant from Tunisia to Canada who discovers an unfamiliar rodent swimming in a nearby park. He tells the kids at school about it, and then advocates with neighbors and new friends to protect the Beaver's habitat when local citizens object to the tree damage in the park. Great story. Set during Ramadan, which allows for Badir to teach his new friends more about Muslim culture, and models realistic actions that kids can do to advocate for changes they believe in.… (més)
