I would rate this book higher if it were specifically written for the subject instead of a projecct on dating dead logs in the southwest U.S. The SW Indian relic emphasis leaves a lot of relevant subject matter not covered, especially forest dynamics in living groves. However the explanations of the techniques on coring and core preparation are good. The discussion of missing and multiple rings is good. The discussion of the differences in rings ith different tree types is not so good however. A discussion of choosing to use non-cross-correlated ring counts from non-stressed sites is lacking but commonly very suitable to many applications.

The best feature of this book are the clear explanations of the principles, site affects on tree rings, and on core techniques and sample preperation.… (més)
