I liked the diner and the atmosphere of friendship between the day shift workers. I think Sully was trying to help some down-and-outers (ex-cons, etc.) though that's never explicitly stated. Some of that rubbed off on his son, even though at first, Jack comes across as a bit of a hard-nose.

Jack and Olivia really don't know each other that long before he's asking her to marry him, and I don't think in real life that would bode well for a long-term relationship. Yes, Jack's known Patrice for years and yes, Patrice has known Olivia for a while so there is that person who knows them both who can give advice on the other--then again, given Patrice's choice in boyfriend, I'm not sure she's the best person to be playing matchmaker.

I'm not sure that the 6 days to raise at least $30K is realistic (I never was real clear on how much money was owed to the bank. Patrice mentions $45K and I'm not sure how she feels that is being repaid to the bank--and then Jack mentions another $30K on top of that amount.)

A friend sent me this book after she'd read it. I believe I've read this author before and usually like her books.

The main characters are Mandy (a doctor-in-training) and Nolan (a parajumper). They were childhood sweethearts whose career desires separated them geographically. Mandy's mother made sure that Nolan's attempts to contact Mandy did not succeed.

The main characters seem well fleshed out. There are too many of Nolan's PJ team for me to remember who was who and who was with whom and which kids belonged to which couple. I've not read other books in this sub-series, perhaps if I had it wouldn't have been so confusing.… (més)

Three enjoyable stories from three different authors and I enjoyed them all. In 'Love at Mistletoe Inn' by Cindy Kirk, you have two people, Hope and John, who meet back up after not seeing each other for 10 years. In their youth they ran away to get married and after the ceremony was completely over, Hope had a sudden change of mind. Now 10 years later she finds out her wedding really was legitimate, and now that John is back in her life, she must decide if she wants to stay married to him after all. The chemistry between these two was fun to be around and watch their love be rekindled, because it never really died.

In 'A Brush with Love' by Rachel Hauck, you have a precious love story where Ginger is made to see she truly is a beautiful woman, both inside and out. Ginger's job is to make everyone else look beautiful, but doesn't think she has any beauty after a fire she was in and was burned badly. But when Tom Wells shows back up in her life, it will be his job to convince her that she is beautiful. Ginger will need to learn to trust Tom and forgive her Mom when secrets about the past are brought to the forefront.

Finally, in 'Serving Up a Sweetheart' by Cheryl Wyatt, you have Meadow Larson learning to accept Colin McGrath and his love. The way these two meet again and then help each other out was fun to watch. Meadow was treated harshly in high school by the crowd Colin hung out with, so learning to trust her feelings when it comes to how she feels about Colin will be hard for Meadow, but Colin is a hard one to resist.

Three easy to read romances that make you feel good after having read them.

A friend once mentioned there should be a subgenre of romance that dealt with lawmen. If that's true, there probably should also be one for military. I feel like I've read the basic plot before: widower with young kids hires a nanny and then falls in love with her.

I guessed early on what Sarah's secret was--I wasn't sure if it directly impacted Aaron's family or was just similar circumstances until that part was revealed by the author--or at least until Ash appeared on the scene.

We aren't told why Aaron is a single father of twins at first. From what I read, it seems he was able to take quite a bit of time off or be only part-time after his wife died to be with his twins. (Perhaps I misread that part.) That didn't seem realistic, even for the military.

I'm also not quite sure why Aaron felt a program for veterans/service members would help Macy. She's not a veteran and I'm not sure she's even related to a veteran or a service member.

I liked the characters but the plot felt tired to me.
