The Roots of Sorrow: A Pastoral Theology of Suffering de Phil Zylla
Zylla's work is spectacularly helpful in framing the state of a person in sorrow or suffering, and then the possible 'shifts' they can experience in seasons following. Zylla identifies three of these shifts: from muteness (silence) to lament; from loneliness to community; from indifference to compassion. Looking at each of these processes Zylla is able to consider the foundations of a theology of suffering for the pastor seeking to offer care.
