I almost missed it, but I saw a brochure at the hardware store this morning, and was able to catch most of the activities. I'm a part-time resident of Berea, KY and happened to be here this weekend. This community has a high ratio of citizens who are active in various sustainability activities. I was very glad to have a chance to meet some of the cutting edge activists on their turf and get an eye-full of the various projects. Ate some tasty tilapia harvested from an aquaculture vat in Berea College student housing. Met a couple who built a gorgeous round house with soaring spaces which is completely off-grid. Finally met most of the people from the nearby Intentional Community. It was certainly a worthwhile day.

That sounds like a great day! I wish there were things like that near where I live. NW Arkansas is not quite as active on the sustainability front as a whole. Sounds like you got the chance to learn a lot and enjoy some cool experiences.

The ASES National Solar Tour doesn't have 2013 on their website
http://www.ases.org/solar-tour/
yet, but Michigan, at least, has an event scheduled for October 5, 2013:

go to the bottom of the page.

Texas has a couple of spring-summer activities on their calendar:

San Antonio in April, Austin in June.

And this site
http://www.nesea.org/gboh/
confirms the October 5th date for 2013.

I'm scheduled to help set up exhibits at the Berea Solar Tour day this year, but I intend to visit all of the stops on the tour. Finding a map is surprisingly difficult thus far.

Does anyone else have plans for Solar Tour Day?

I finally made contact with one of last year's homeowners and she is helping me to begin the thought process and planning to build my own solar power array.

Report on this year's tour.

I spent the entire morning at one stop.
Salamander Springs Farm

Susana is my new hero. Wow! She's done it all. Built all of the structures, especially a sweet passive solar home with a very tidy footprint. Solar PV and summer hot water shower, spring-fed water supply and a grey water pond. She is wizardly at using found and scavanged materials in her projects. Her gardens are orderly and productive. She invites student interns to camp on site all summer and help with the CSA. They have a lovely summer kitchen set-up with a covered veranda dining space.
