The setting of this book takes place on a rocky shore and then moves outward into the tide pools, and then the ocean. It does not tell us what the specific location is because most of these facts pertain to rocky shores in numerous places. The setting fits with the genre and theme of the book as it seeks to inform us about the place and characteristics of this place. As the setting changes, it moves the book forward as we start with the familiarity of the shore and land, and then gradually move out deeper into the ocean.
