This book just didn't do it for me. It seemed potentially interesting and clever, about shapes and done with dogs, but I found neither the illustrations nor the text particularly compelling. ( )

This is a great book that identifies shapes, and gets children familiar with them. This book also includes the noise the animals make as well as the environment around them. The words are placed thoughtfully throughout the book to keep the reader interested and to maximize space for illustration. This would be a great bed time read for a child. ( )

Circle Dogs is the perfect goodnight story for very young readers. Through the story of the circle shaped dogs who live in the square house, this book has lots good vocabulary with accompanying images for children to learn. The book has an almost rhythmic cadence that is easy to follow and has a soothing effect. The illustrations are bright and interesting, and will surely keep the attention of the child. ( )

Written by Kevin Henkes Circle Dogs is about the day to day lives of two dogs and the family they live with. I found the story to be very cute and enjoyed reading it aloud. Illustrations were extremely bright and cheerful. No real theme to be found in this sort but setting is at home and characters include a mother, father, big sister and little sister. ( )

Oh I wish I had a tiny one with whom to share this. Older kids and some adults will find it too simplistic, but I heart the sweet joy and the reinforcement of circles, squares, eating, playing, and sleeping. The pictures are perfect in their iconographic clean lines and limited palette.

This is yet another book that would work even better as a board book, sturdy enough for the jam-faced rug-rat to carry around and peruse at her own leisure. ( )
