Dated now and the author died soon after it was published but a good read. I have always been interested in Marxism when it is applied to understanding social experiences out of the workplace. For example understanding the struggles for access to the countryside or in the production of art. The author is not a Marxist but she introduced me to the notion that much of our landscape is socially created as well as owned! I use to drive the ramblers to distraction, as they went into raptures about some lower spotted warbling thing, I would wonder about how the landscape was affected by changes in agriculture practice. The classic class struggles being the highland clearances and enclosure. But we all just to agree about the need to protect footpaths! ( )
