A little beggar arrives in a poor village and with his magic bone buttons brings the town to witness the making of Bone Button Borscht.
This is a beautifully done picture book. The pictures, though simple, tell just as much of the story as the text and they are brilliant; all done in watercolour there is so much brightness and life in the character's faces, even the little cat that randomly shows up. It's a story of sharing and the connections between people done in a funny and interesting way.

This book provides a lesson, within a story. The lesson is that by sharing, everyone gains. That's a good lesson to learn. The picturtes have a mysterious look to them, which adds to the flavour of the book. Also, the book references several things that are associated with the Jewish people. So specific students will enjoy seeing that aspect in a story they read.
