I am excited to share a new board book with my granddaughter this weekend. The World Is Awake by Linsey Davis is a colorful, rhyming story for the toddler set. Inspired by scripture, it takes a pair of siblings through a day full of wonder. God’s creation is enthusiastically explored in all its diversity. I think my granddaughter is going to love all that she can see and hear as we read this book together. Entertaining and instructional — a win-win! Highly recommended!

ABC news correspondent Linsey Davis joins forces with co-author Joseph Bottum and illustrator Lucy Fleming in this rhyming picture-book celebration of God's creation. The text describes all of the everyday blessings of the natural world, from the sunrise to the trees - not to mention all of the animals - while the artwork depicts a happy African-American family enjoying and giving thanks for those blessings...

Published by ZonderKidz, the children's imprint of Christian publisher Zondervan, The World Is Awake: A Celebration of Everyday Blessings is a non-denominational picture-book offering a celebration of the natural world from a religious perspective. The rhyming text here reads very well, is positive and upbeat, and is well-matched by the colorful and appealing artwork. Recommended to Christians looking for picture-books about gratitude. ( )

This is the day the Lord has made. A butterfly floats through the sun and the shade, while dragonflies flit past the flowers and trees and grasshoppers hop in the soft morning breeze. The World Is Awake, A celebration of everyday blessings, written by Emmy Award winner and ABC News correspondent Linsey Davis with Joseph Bottum, is a lyrical, rhyming story for young children intended to make them feel safe and joyful, cradled in the hands of God.

The World is Awake is about celebrating life's everyday blessings. It's a rhyming story that inspires children to be thankful for God's blessings that surround them every day. The illustrations, that go along with the book, make it come to life. I thought this book was really sweet and it did flow really well with the rhymes that were used. It was a tad religious for my taste, but it works for little kids. I also did some research on the author and she said after her son was born she couldn't find books that looked like him. Knowing that made me appreciate the book more. ( )
