"For fans of the "Who Was" series, this lively, accessible, and full-color chapter book biography shows how a self-taught scientist was the first to observe the microbial life in and around us. The book tells about Antony van Leeuwenhoek's life that lead him to building the microscope and being the first human to see microscopic organisms. It follows his life, showing us that though he wasn't raised in the sciences he had a curious mind and that's what lead to his discovery. This is a good message to show kids, and the book is well illustrated with a nice glossary with dates at the end for fact checks. ( )

A quick, informative read about Antony van Leeuwenhoek. The book is beautifully designed and illustrated. van Leeuwenhoek was untrained in science, but seemed a curious person. He built more than 500 microscopes in his lifetime and did much observation and designed experiments. His work was shared with the Royal Society in London. He was secretive about his design.
End matter includes a glossary, time line, and index. ( )

This picture book does a great job at teaching kids about the microscope and the discovery of organisms we cannot see. I could see this book being used in lower grade classrooms. All in a Drop brings the ideas and wonders of what all is around us. This book shows how curiosity and ingenuity can lead to such great discoveries. I would definitely recommend this picture book to all teachers. ( )

Antony van Leeuwenhoek who was never educated in science had a passion and curiosity led him to the discovery of microbes. He designed a microscope that was much better than the ones they were using during that time. This book is great to show students that there are so many other things in our world like microbes and just because you don’t see them doesn’t mean that it isn’t there. ( )

This book is Sibert Award winning biography book about Antony Van Leeuwenhoek and his scientific discoveries. Although it does talk a little about his life, the book is mainly about what he discovered. The book is filled with wonderful illustrations and incredible information about Leeuwenhoek. I recommend this book because it really emphasis on what he discovered or invented that is so important to science now. ( )
