I really enjoyed this book. I think it is a great choice to read to elementary school students because they can relate to Lola. Lola doesn't want to go to school for many reasons including not having any friends, leaving her imaginary friend behind, and not being big enough. Her older brother Charlie tells Lola many reasons why school is fun and why she should go. He tell her that she will learn how to read and write, and make new friends, and that Lola's imaginary friend who was also starting school would be alone if she didn't go with him. Lola agrees to go to school; she meets new friends and explains that she was only nervous for Soren Lorenson (her imaginary friend). ( )

This book was not one of my favorite books to read to children for back to school. In the story Lola is so nervous and has many different fears about starting school. Her older brother Charlie tries his best to reassure her that its not as bad as she thinks it is. He tells her that she will make new friends and learn new things like how to write and read. It was a cute story but I don't think that I would read this to my students as a back to school book. Charlie was able to talk Lola into seeing how school is, and Lola even made a new friend the first day. I can somewhat relate to Lola as far as having fears on the first day of school. No one knows what to expect and its like going in with a blindfold. I remember how I felt on my first day, and can see why Lola was so nervous about her first day of school. Lola was lucky to have an older brother Charlie to be able to talk to her and reassure her that it is not as bad as she thinks it is. I did not have that being that I was the oldest. I was in Charlie's shoes reassuring my little sister to not be nervous and that everything was going to be okay. ( )

Lola's invisible friend ,Soren Lorensen, is all Lola needs in her life. This friend is always there for her and supports her in everything she does. Charlie, Lola's big brother explains to Lola that it is time for her to go to school. The entire story Charlie thinks Lola is the one who is nervous about school, when in Lola's mind it is actually Soren Lorensen who is the one who nervous about school. Lauren Child created a great story that involves many topics. Invisible friends are a huge deal for young children and those friends bring out the imagination of a young child. She also talks about the first day of school. Any first day of school is nervous for a young child especially when they think they are too small. She allows the reader to feel the connection of a big brother and sister relationship. Charlie is always there for Lola through all of the obstacles about her first day of school. Child put a great story together that teaches the reader many lessons about young children. ( )

I Am Too Absolutely Small for School, is about siblings Charlie and Lola. Lola is nervous about starting school. She is convinced that she is still too small for school. Lola claims she already knows enough and doesn't need to attend school to learn anything else. Charlie tries to tell Lola about all of the great things she will learn at school. My children were least interested in this book. This book was not as funny or snarky as the other books that we read by Lauren Child. ( )

This book is about a little girl who has to go to school for the first time but is scared about all the unknowns. But after talking to her big brother about it, her fears are eased and when she goes to school, she ends up making a new friend.
