The Five Little Pigs, by David Martin. The book is a classic story of five little pigs about going to the store, staying home, and crying all the way home. The characters are the mother and the five little pigs. The theme of the book is, I believe, a good read and entertainment for children. The story is different chapters of the book that tell stories of the pig going to the market. The pig that went to the market forgot everything that her mother had told her to get at the store but she easily remembered because she made a song. The pig that stayed at home was having a bad day by dropping his breakfast, ripping his pants, and spilling his juice. The next pig cried all the way home. ( )

"Five Little Piggies" gives the story on why this little piggy went to market, this little piggy stayed home, and so on. Young children will love this creative and silly take on the well known rhyme. David Martin tells it in terms and situations relevant to young children (like wanting something you can't have, being forgetful, or having a bad day). The illustrations are humorous and colorful, and add life and expression to the text. This would be a great addition to a school or public library children's collection. ( )

The reviewer for 'Publisher's Weekly' said of this work, "This uncommonly diverting picture book tells why this little piggy went to market and that one stayed home. Five chapters introduce the porcine quintet one by one, according to the nursery rhyme. . .With utmost attention and a sly sense of humor, illustrator Meddaugh (Martha Speaks) give each character a distinctive personality and outfit. . ."
