The book there is a little girl who is so excited about going to this celebration of thanksgiving and can not keep still. This is the first time she gets to go to “Matondo” which means “celebration of thanksgiving.” This event is held in one village where all of the other villages come together and bring gifts such as coins, eggs, fruit and vegetables, chickens, and goats. In this celebration there is a preacher who talks to the villagers in a shelter which is just a roof with no walls and post. So sometimes the animals wondered in but usually the Monkeys stayed in the forested areas but one Sunday there was a big commotion and it was a monkey on the roof eating a banana. The main idea of this story is to inform the reader about “Matondo” and why this one Sunday was called Monkey Sunday.

One reason I like this book is that “Matondo” is an actual event that goes on in the Congo. In the book it tells you about the authors experience about when he went to a celebration and a Monkey was eating a banana on the roof and it was a big uproar. Another reason I like this book is that this “Matondo” is a tradition which each village participates in every year and in the book it tells you all about the event and what goes on in it. Overall I like this book because it is showing you a different culture and how they celebrate thanksgiving and what they call it. ( )
