I am an over the top obsessive Conan fan. this book looks nice on the outside but is trash on the inside. The stories are chopped up, the artwork is horribly mutilated and photo shopped. Pictures in wrong stories. Some of the stories are not even complete. If you insist on having everything Conan by all means buy it. But if you are casual at least buy the Del Rey books which have the stories as they were written. The cover art is worth it alone for a Conan fan. That is about all it has going for it. ( ) As a sucker for sword and sorcery, I loved this collection, but I must temper my fan-boydom with a bit of a warning. There are some deep, philosophically poignant works in this collection. You did not misread that last part. I am not mistaken. Conan was a Libertarian at heart, and Howard relates his crudely refined philosophy adroitly. Others tales in the collection stumble clunkily, however. 'The People of the Black Circle' and 'Queen of the Black Coast' are easily my favorites. The others got reductive at times. All in all, worth checking out. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
As one of the three most important American pulp fantasy authors of the 1930s (with Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith), Robert E. Howard captivated readers with his indomitable, battle-scarred barbarian hero Conan. Though Howard's life ended prematurely in 1936 at the age of 30, Conan lives on as one of the genre's most enduring icons. This beautifully designed collection contains nine essential Conan stories along with a full-length Conan novel. Also included isThe Hyborean Age, Howard's fascinating history of the raw, blood-drenched world Conan inhabited, an alternative Earth that preceded Tolkien's Middle Earth. And Their Memory Was a Bitter Tree features a color map of this realm and an interior painting by cult artist Brom, along with a series of Frank Frazetta's seminal Conan paintings, appearing for the first time with the stories for which they were created.
