When the series starts, Starletta "Star" Duvall is a police lieutenant in charge of homicide in Brookport, Massachusetts. Her partner is Sergeant Dominic Paresi. Her mother, originally from Chicago, died when she was 12. Her father Leonard "Lenny" Duvall was originally from New Orleans and was a police sergeant. Star is in her late 30s, tall, dark-skinned with amber eyes that make a dramatic contrast, and very short hair.

My interest in series is character-driven, and I like Stat and Dominic very much. I thoro'ly enjoyed these books. ( )
