Honestly, the writing was good, no dearth of feels in this book, and I somehow fell in love right alongside Merina, albeit after overlooking a lot of cons. However, I did almost dnf this book multiple times as I had a number of issues with this book, the primary being the fact that Merina often comes across as immature and lacking a spine. Moreover, somehow reading this book felt strangely misogynist. Nothing specific but the book was littered with small instances that in themselves might not have been a major issue but the overall tone of the book just didn't sit well with me. Also, in the end, I felt that Reese got off too easy. Overall, the writing was good and maybe even the plot had potential but the way it was executed left a lot to be desired. Convenience is the name of the game. Nothing comes easy in the world of high powered rollers. The people are ruthless. The stakes are cutthroat and the squeamish need not apply. I received an ARC of The Billionaire Bachelor by Jessica Lemmon in exchange for an honest review. Should be used to the marriage of convenience scenario by now, due to the fact that it pops up so frequently in romantic literature. Nevertheless Jessica Lemmon found a winner in The Billionaire Bachelor. The premise is familiar but the voice is all her own. Not always likable Reese can be brutal, but knows how to lay on the charm to get what he wants and his lethal personality proves to be Merina's undoing. With every line and interaction Ms. Lemmon seduces. The heart of the story is not necessarily the love story but the inner growth each experiences along the way. Daring to be different, The Billionaire Bachelor is a new spin on a age old plot. It made the grade in my book. "A" all the way! The Van Heusen Hotel mean EVERYTHING to Merina Van Heusen! His was her family legacy, but one morning everything was snatched out from underneath her, when Merina finds out that they have sold The Van Heusen to Alexander Crane of The Crane Hotel chain SIX MONTHS BEFORE!!! Why? To save themselves from bankruptcy and their staff from losing their jobs. But Merina was heartbroken that her parents and livid at the Crane grouping, but more specifically Reese Crane, as he was now likely to become the new CEO of The Crane Group. Reese Crane was having a reputation crisis, one that could lose him the position of CEO. You see, Reese was a bit of a player and the board didn't want some playboy in charge of their investment. So when Merino Van Hausen stormed into his office and yelled at him! Well let's just say, it couldn't have happened at a better time. So he proposed a deal! Merina marry him for a year and secure his position as CEO of the company and she would run the Van Hausen as she saw fit! I mean come one…it's a sure thing right! So we delve into the world of Billionaires and hotel owners…one of which I'm not familiar with, but I found it a enjoyable book, there was only one sticking point for me and that is where it to one of the characters. I struggled to like Merina's character. I found her a little hard and without depth. I kept reading, hoping that somewhere I would find a spark of liking for her, but sadly for me it never came. Reese I liked; which surprised me, as normally I don't like the male whore/playboy characters, but there was just something about Reese I like and he truly make the book for me! But I will say the authors writing and plots were smooth and compelling and it really did make a great, light hearted summer read. I give The Billionaire Bachelor 3.5 stars. Forget the cheesy title, this book is delightful!
Merina and Reese's marriage of convenience should seem out of place in a contemporary romance, but it fits in with their personalities and their individual requirements - respectability for Reese and keeping her family hotel for Merina.
The enemies to lovers romance is intense and exciting as these two opposites clash at every turn, that is until they realize they can't keep their hands off each other. There is also very little drama or angst in the plot, which is an added bonus.
Each of Reese's brothers has their own book and Tag's is next. Looking forward to it.
