It's Valerian Dorning's turn for a story and it's a good one. Val is the honorable brother, the steady one who keeps the wilder younger siblings in check while supporting the rest of the family. He's the one who's stayed at home to keep things going. When he falls in love with heiress Emily Pepper, his honor doesn't permit him to court her as he doesn't want to look like a fortune hunter. Fortunately, Emily has other ideas.
Ms. Burrowes always writes a good romance, and Val and Emily are a perfect couple. They actually talk to each other and work out their problems together. It's a lovely story and a sweet romance. Emily has her own drama as her family has not been good at working out communication issues in the past, leading to a family tragedy, so it was nice to see how being honest with each other helped resolve the story.
