Another winning book from Ann Lovejoy, who writes with such grace and depth about the joys and challenges of gardening, with a special emphasis on our Pacific Northwest. But, if you don't live in this area, don't steer away from her wisdom....gardeners of any area and ilk will find much to treasure in her books.

Aside from the wealth of practical knowledge that even the most grizzled of gardeners can glean something from, she has moment of transcendence. I'll add just one quote, which will illustrate the nature of her writing, "We make gardens not just to embody our dreams but because our spirits are uplifted each time we touch the earth." ( )
