Review of the paperback graphic novel (July 2020)
Writer Joshua Plack converted his planned 3-part graphic novel Eudaimonia into a 2-parter with the release of Eudaimonia 2: From Town to Trench. This shortening makes for a condensed wrap-up to the story and doesn't give a complete story line to the German youth who was shown in WWI conflict with an American youth in Volume 1. The story in Volume 2 instead concentrates on the "Girl with the Cello" story line which does seem very much lifted from the now iconic Cellist of Sarajevo, whether in real life or in fiction i.e. Steven Galloway's The Cellist of Sarajevo (2008). Illustrator Emilio Utrera's art work is as beautiful and evocative as ever. Author Plack concludes the story with his now characteristic narrative verse text. ( )
