I loved Heather Montgomery's Bug Don't Hug and her next nonfiction picture is a winner too! I enjoyed the combination of biography, history, and natural science and the pictures and text compliment each other. I thought the explanation of how science skills such as collecting and categorizing will encourage budding scientists to keep exploring. Her introduction to some famous and not-so-famous scientists from various time periods and subject area expertise will encourage readers to further explore these subjects. Montgomery always gives great bibliographic information and notes to her readers so they can continue to learn about the topics she covers (she has an MS in Environmental Education) -- I love that she gives further information about the scientists and further reading on each. Great nonfiction title for a library or classroom collection. This is a fascinating book about children who were collectors of items from nature that grew up to make important discoveries. HUGE caveat: the author only addresses guidelines for collection of natural objects in an author's note at the end of the book. Earlier, she includes a story about a boy stealing multiple eggs from a nest and doesn't directly address it. This is an enormous and irresponsible error in a book intended for children. "A science educator honors children's curiosity and pockets full of "stuff" by introducing nine scientists who collected natural treasures when they were young. Collecting, sorting, and playing with shells, stones, and other objects taught these young people how to observe, classify, and discover"-- No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |

This book is about many different successful people and how their curiosity to discover and create started when they were young
This would be a great book to follow up with a project to encourage children to also think about what they enjoy and what they wonder about in order to grow new passions and interests.
