Sometimes the darkest secrets are just beneath the surface Two missing girls. One lake. Twenty years apart. Katie Benard reluctantly returns home to Grady Lake two decades after her older sister Malorie disappeared without a trace, a story that has captivated the nation since the day she was reported missing in 2003. After leaving home years ago, Katie is overjoyed to reunite with her childhood best friend and cousin while working for her family's lakeside resort at the end of tourist season in northern Michigan. Just when life begins to feel normal again, a teenage girl goes missing from the resort. She has vanished without a trace, just like Malorie. The area hasn't seen a major crime in decades, leading everyone to believe the disappearances must be connected. Which scenario is more terrifying: the theory that there are two monsters lurking in this small lakeside town, or the possibility that the same maniac has waited twenty years before striking again? This unputdownable mystery from the bestselling author of Delta County will have you guessing until the very last page.… (més)

So good! And so atmospheric. I want to go to Grady Lake (minus the dead bodies). It's a short book, about 200 pages, but what impresses me is the author's ability to describe the characters in a way that makes me feel like I know them. I really felt like I belonged in their family and this summer, I'm going to take a trip to see my fam on Grady Lake. My family is very similar in our interactions with each other, lots of making fun in a a lighthearted way. And this book ends in such a cliffhanger! I'm so happy I already ordered book #2 and I can jump right in. But something tells me, I'm going to be sad that book #3 isn't out yet when I get the end of the second novel! SPOILER: And her sister is still alive...WWWHHHAAAATT?? I thought that a few times throughout the book but I also thought a lot of things. I was thinking it was the Palmer father and then other times, I thought it was Rich, and other times I thought it was Katie's dad (I'm still not 100% off of this theory.) I also thought it was her friend Nicole at one time. I never really thought it was Dougie though - and didn't think it was a whole ring and multiple girls and hiding them. So pumped to read book 2!
