"God is love. Crazy, relentless, all-powerful love. Have you ever wondered if we're missing it? It's crazy, if you think about it. The God of the universe--the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor--loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss. Whether you've verbalized it yet or not ... we all know something's wrong. Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo? Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the problems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn't working harder at a list of do's and don'ts--it's falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love, as Francis describes it, you will never be the same. Because when you're wildly in love with someone, it changes everything"--Cover verso.… (més)

All books resonate or not, depending on where you are in life.

Francis Chan no doubt is a genuine caring person who wants us all to fall in love with this God who is crazy in love with you. For recovery evangelicals (like myself) who struggle with traditional language and doctrine, parts of Crazy Love are frustrating. Chan espouses expected reformed theology.

That being said, I recommend the book for those new to faith and want to go deeper. His call is prophetic and challenging, taking serious Jesus' radical claims and expectations. Two come to mind. He said that lukewarm people call "radical" what Jesus expects of his followers. Second was the question - how does the way you live require faith? If I'm honest, often it doesn't. ( )

Segundo Chan, apenas experimentando e nutrindo um honesto relacionamento com Deus podemos dar a necessária chacoalhada em nossa vida e espantar a terrível mornidão que caracteriza nossa atitude diante do pai. ( )

So, this book is apparently groundbreaking in the evangelical community. Maybe so. And if so, fine, though that may led credence to Mark Noll's thesis that the scandal of the evangelical mind is that there isn't one. But that is not a knock on Chan's message that the gospel is radical and should affect everything we do. Content-wise, there is nothing here I haven't heard more deeply and expositorily from pulpits on the Kuyperian side of the CRCNA (Christian Reformed Church in North America) for 50 years. The style is different than what I am used to--very informal, more of a transcript of a series of talks than chapters of a book. Lots of admonitions to go look things up on the web and watch videos before continuing to read, which was annoying--if I am reading a book, I don't want to have to go pull out my phone or laptop. In sum, the message was in no ways anything new or deep. But this book was probably not written with me as the intended audience, and I appreciated what he was trying to do. For an evangelical Christian who doesn't read a lot, this may be life changing. And that would be a good thing. ( )
