This is a book about a bird trying very hard to fit in with a rowdy group of fellow sparrows by teaming up with a nefarious cat. Ben and the Buccaneers was just what I was looking for to break the ice with a hard to reach little boy I was doing one on one work within special education. It contains all the elements of a great adventure story along with wonderful illustrations for a young reader up to about 5th grade. Highly recommend for that wild child you are trying to connect to reading and writing. This is a great create your own adventure writing prompt at the climax of the story. After written stories are complete, the teacher can reveal what happens to the group. A really fun book. ( )

A little bird so wants to belong and he does so by not only trapping the Buccaneers for the cat but also frees them.He uses his smarts and they are all once again flying high with Ben now a Buccaneer. ( )
