Living in a distant, uninhabited part of the world, Mug the monster and Blavia the witch were an unhappily married couple. Whiling away their time by being nasty to one another, the supernatural duo agreed on only one thing: their love for a book about the world's creatures. Still fighting, they become involved in a game in which they transform into the creatures from the book. But when they change into human beings, something unexpected happens...

Despite my usual enjoyment of witchy tales - the entire reason I added this one to Mt. TBR in the first place - I found Triple Whammy somewhat lackluster. The story was engaging enough, although I'm not sure I'm convinced that Mug and Blavia became such a loving pair, simply by turning into people. My knowledge of human nature would suggest different possibilities. The artwork here was colorful and appealing, with an almost pointilist quality to it, so the visuals were enjoyable. I'm not sure I really recommend this one, but tastes vary, of course, so readers with a strong interest in picture-books featuring monsters and witches might still want to give it a chance. ( )
