Strong on Yorkshire descriptions; description of warfare from a grunt's perspective, but repetitive in the self-analysis of the chief characters, making it boring to me. The plot stretched over several generations of a complicated family, blended with some ghostly apparitions and family secrets being revealed little by little.

Good balance between modern and historic events, as a spectral black hound is haunting Dagger Lane. Natasha, a writer, is haunted by the presence of a woman and is compelled to write her story - which uncovers a crime and a long standing evil.
