Thank you LibraryThing for the copy.

I am second guessing my wild clicking and choosing these giveaways.

I am not sure why I clicked this book. Likely the description intrigued me. But the book itself was not anything I expected. Over 2/3 was background. I kept waiting for the actual story-line to begin.

The main character's life as an abused child to determined teen to adulthood was not what I wanted. I wanted a DA to do more faster and maybe have his prior experiences intermingle within.… (més)

Have read my fair share of self-help books. Some good, many bad, but Tips for Livin’ is unique in the genre, and it is great! The author has a no-BS way of getting to the point. He isn’t a scientist. He is a guy who has lived and found a good way to navigate this life thing. If you want to feel a little more inspired while also seeing the world from a cool perspective. Then get Tips for Livin’.

Honestly, it usually takes me a week to read a book, but I read Twisted Fate in a single sitting. The story takes you on a journey with the main character and really draws you in. The book is believable, the characters are real. The tragedies sting and your heart rejoices at each victory. The Author ties everything together well, and unlike some other books in this genre, nothing feels contrived or forced. I closed the last page with a smile and was left wanting more.

Poor pacing too much backstory and not enough plot. The bases of a reasonable book are there, but it doesn't feel like a novel as such more a series of related character portraits strung together. Much like the Silmarillion it's vital detail that an author needs to understand their characters, but it doesn't actually want to be published for any but the most dedicated fans.

Jay is a young kid living with a drug addicted mother and her pimp. His young world is shattered when is grandfather Henry rescues him and his mother, although she prefers independence to his military ways and returns to the streets. Jay grows up and follows is 'pops' footsteps into the marines until he gets invalided out, and then follows the footsteps of his 'pops' friend into law and becomes a DA determined to sort out street crime seeking revenge for his earliest years.

Meh. never cared about any of them, didn't like the motivations and didn't like the structure.
