The story follows a week in the life of Juke as the short sentences demonstrate Juke's thought process and observation as there are changes within his family and routine. There is also a jump between real life and alternative stories such as Bible verses. The book is written in the present tense so readers read the narrative in real-time. A personal pleasant way to read since nothing in the future can be foreseen and readers learn what happens at the same time as the characters. Therefore, as well as being written in the first-person, this makes the story a lot more intimate as Juke's perspective is followed from Monday to Sunday.
