Sobre l'autor

One of the most noted of the "village writers," the prolific Soloukhin started to publish in 1946. His prose celebrates the countryside, both nature and town. A twentieth-century Slavophile, Soloukhin is concerned about the destruction of Russia's cultural monuments, particularly churches and mostra'n més icons, as evidenced in his controversial Letters from the Russian Museum (1966). Vladimir Country Roads (1953), a lyrical account of a walking trip in central Russia, is one of his best-known works. (Bowker Author Biography) mostra'n menys

This is a superb book depicting some of the conflicts of life in the Soviet Union. Also illustrates a tragic portrait of the demise of countless irreplaceable national treasures and a terribly devastating blow to a rich and colorful culture. Very emotional and vividly portrayed, even through translation.
