In my opinion this is a good book. I would use this book in a read aloud setting with my classroom. I liked the illustrations in the book because they were a good representation to what was happening in the writing. For example, on page 13 the crow was trying to get a drink of water, however the water was still too low. In the illustration it shows the crow bending over on the side of the pitcher trying to drink the water with his beak open, but he looks like he can't reach. I also liked the writing in the book. Through out the book it explains, "He carried the rock to the pitcher. He dropped the rock into the pitcher." I think this is good repetition for students and as a teacher you can ask, "what do you think he will do with the rock that he is carrying to the pitcher?" and the students can then predict what he will do. There is no specific message of the story, however it gets the students (readers) to guess will Crow ever get a drink of water, therefore the big idea is to use your predicting skills to guess the ending.… (més)
