St. Chad Gospels
St. Chad Gospels (also known as the Llandeilo Fawr Gospels, St Teilo Gospels, and Lichfield Gospels) is one of the treasures preserved in the Litchfield Cathedral Library. Created around 730, the St. Chad Gospels is an exquisite blend of Irish and Anglo-Saxon styles. Its decorative elements are reminicent of the Lindisfarne Gospels and the Book of Kells. The St Chad Gospels contains the earliest surviving examples of Old Welsh writing.
In colaboration with the University of Kentucky, digital images of St. Chad Gospels and the Cathedral's Wycliffe New Testament are available on-line.
