This is probably a 3.5 stars for me. While I enjoyed the story at times it just didn't feel long enough or that it went in depth as much.I wanted to know more about Kate´s past and more on why everyone thought Reed was a bad guy, granted I know one reason is given and while it is sad I don´t see how it makes him someone she should steer clear of. I guess I just needed more character development. But I did like Reed and Kate. I just found it to be lacking in background. ( )

This was yet another story that roped me in right from the beginning. I am typically a sucker for romantic books, and this one surely did not leave me disappointed. From the start, I immediately liked the main characters, Kate and Reed. I believed that they were destined to be star-crossed lovers, but sincerely hoped that they would somehow find a way to prevent their love from being destroyed. Read the book to find out all of the dramatic details! ( )

Quick & Dirty: Cute contemporary romance with fun characters, but it was a little forgettable.

Opening Sentence: It sounded like an explosion from the rear of the car, and I yelped in surprise.

Excerpt: Yes

The Review:

Kate Spivey has had a few rough years. It is the summer before her senior year at college and her parents have given her an ultimatum, she has to work for her aunt the whole summer or they won’t pay for her last year of college. When Kate was younger, she was the perfect student and daughter with a full ride to college. Then she got in a abusive relationship and everything went downhill from there. Kate started partying too much and her grades really suffered.

Kate has cleaned up her act now and is hoping to gain her parents trust back by doing exactly what they say. She is being sent to work for her aunt in the little town of Blackerville. The Willoughby Inn was the setting for a very famous novel, and Kate’s aunt happens to own the inn. Kate is afraid she is going to die of boredom, spending the whole summer in this hick town until she meets the gorgeous Reed Black. Reed is known as the town heartbreaker and Kate knows that she should stay away from him, but she can’t seem to force herself to. There is no way her parents would approve of her dating someone like Reed. With her aunt watching her every move, Kate has to be careful or all her hard work will go to waste, because if she even steps one foot out of line her parents will pull her dreams of finishing college right out from underneath her.

I think that Kate is a sweet girl that grew up in a hard environment. With a mother that was never pleased and a father that just ignored her, she was emotionally scarred from that. Once she went away to college, she finally wanted to let loose and have a little freedom, she just overdid it. Now she has completely retreated into herself and doesn’t trust herself to know what to do. For most of the book, I found Kate to be slightly frustrating, she had no backbone, which given the circumstances, I understood why but it still bugged me. I found her hard to connect with at times, but I eventually grew to like her.

Reed is sexy and a very appealing male character. He has a player reputation and he has earned it. He has a sad past that has made him swear off love, but then he meets Kate. With all his good looks and charm, it comes as a surprise when he is awkward around Kate. He is very hot and cold toward her and is always sending mixed signals about his feelings. Kate and Reed’s relationship is full of sexual tension and hot chemistry. I thought that Reed was a sweet guy and overall he was a fun character to get to know.

Where My Heart Breaks was a cute romance novel that I enjoyed. The characters were interesting, and for the most part I liked them. The romance was sweet and was full of steam and tension. The plot was predictable, but it was still entertaining. My favorite part of the story was the use of the story within the story. Kate reads the heartbreaking love story that brought fame to the Willoughby Inn, and all the while she is living is her own love story. I think my biggest issue with this story is that it was forgettable. I read the book a week ago and now that I am writing the review, I find it hard to really remember anything memorable from it. But with that being said, it was a cute, very fast read. So if you are looking for something short and easy to read, I would suggest you give this one a try.

Notable Scene:

“How did you know I was down at the lake?”

Reed smiled and shook his head ruefully. “Second chapter of that book in your hands. Jackson meets Camilla for the first time down by the lake. Call it a hunch.”

I chuckled. “I’d better hurry up and finish this before I become too transparent.”

Reed ducked his head and took a step backwards. “Goodnight, Kate.

I’ll see you around.”

I cast a quick glance over my shoulder as I made my way to the door. Reed disappeared into the shadows. He didn’t look back.

Day one in Bleckerville. I was stone cold sober and made my first friend. I whistled as I made my way up the staircase. I couldn’t wait to brag to Millie about how much I’d grown.

FTC Advisory: Smith Sinclair Books provided me with a copy of Where My Heart Breaks. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. ( )

Kate Spivey is a girl who like most girls at some time has made huge mistakes in her life. Now she’s trying everything she can to make everyone around her believe she has changed her ways including herself. So when she is sent into exile by her mother for the summer to help her Aunt run her Bed & Breakfast she had a stick set of rules. No Drinking, No Men & No Fun! With one flat tire those rules get blown out of the water. Meet Reed Black, the town bad boy plus some. He is the according to the town the boy, the trouble maker, the one buy in town that can never change. But while no one was looking Reed did grow up, yes he still had a questionable lifestyle but it was what he was capable of. What one girl ends up finding in this little town is more than a man that makes her feel things she hasn’t ever felt. She finds someone who understands her and accepts her as she is flaws and all and vice versa. Reed not believing that he is worth the love that his past will always haunt him. Then she is faced with a choice Family or Reed? Which one will she choose? Will her heart break?

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

I liked the characters and the storyline. It seemed to move a little slow for my taste. Then at the end it is like the author didn't want to write any more. The ending was wrapped up very quickly. All in all with a little more ironing out it would be a five star. But as it stands I only give it four, which isn't bad!! It did leave me wanting to read more from the author. I would recommend this to romance lovers. ( )
