Once you start "Berzerker" by Theo Cage, you'll be just as trapped as the main characters, unable to stop until you figure out what's going on and how to get yourself out of a situation that continues to become increasingly creepy and surreal. As the snow falls and Sean Chiller and his family become trapped in the strange little town of Berzerker, the weather itself can be felt as its own menacing entity. But what lurks in this town is far from weather-induced. You won't be able to put this book down until you reach the heart-pounding, surprising and ultimately, satisfying, ending.

Sean and Tracey are driving to take their daughter who is suffering from a rare genetic disease, a variation of Cystic Fibrosis to Fargo for a much needed treatment for a partial cure based on genetic therapy.

However, on the way, their GPS gets them turned around, and they enter this town called "Berzerker".

The townspeople are, kinda strange and hostile towards Sean and Tracey.
However, when they try to leave the next day, they find the gates are closed, their car does not work and they are stuck.
To add to the weirdness, strange screams are heard at night...

Turns out the town is experimenting with people and making them go crazy... the experimental drug is in the food they have been feeding to Sean and Tracey.

Can they escape with their lives? Have they been affected by this food?

All in all, a well written horror book - don't read before bedtime in a hotel in a strange town! ( )

I loved this book. The title caught my attention first - I mean how could I resist checking it out? This was a page turning, fast paced horror story. This book had a little bit of everything: good characters, greed, corporate/army collusion, science experiments on young human males. What more could it cover?

The Chiller family was on their way to Fargo, ND for an appointment with a genetic company in the hopes that they would have a treatment for their young daughter who has Cystic Fibrosis. This is winter in North Dakota and their is a severe winter storm with extensive snow fall. Ok, this might be a little cliche but they are below empty and need to get gas in order to continue to Fargo. While reading I didn't even notice this because it just worked into how the family finds themselves in a town called Berzerker.

Bezerker is a strange town that just doesn't feel right. It is dark and power is out except for a few places. Everything is closed down and there are no people out. The diner that is open won't even sell them coffee. Sean is a cop and he is having all types of bad vibes but what can they do till morning when the gas station opens. They spend the night in a dusty hotel room that hasn't been used in years. Then the screaming and howling begins and lasts into the wee hours of the morning.

Things go from bad to worse when they can't get out of Berzerker. The town has a unique history dating back to its origins which the family learns about. Their daughter's daily antibiotic injection is stolen out of their SUV. She depends on this to live so they go to the local doctor who is a bona fide nut job. Needless to say it becomes a race to get out of Berzerker and get their daughter to a hospital. Unfortunately, Sean gets himself included in the nightmare that is Berzerker.

I found this to be a great read and recommend it to all readers who like horror, thrillers, mysteries or science fiction.
