One teen's incredible journey may just blow his father's mind...Fourteen-year-old Bernard thinks outside the box. The only problem is that neither his school nor his ultra-rational physicist father appreciate his unique ideas. When he reacts to a stressful situation at school by mooning the class, his suspension sends him straight to his father's workplace. After his frustrated father leaves him unattended, Bernard does what any teen would do: wander into the particle accelerator and accidentally get transported through a wormhole! It doesn't take long for Bernard to realize he's in deep trouble. Not only did the wormhole drop him in the middle of a civil war over a depleted resource, but the battle is actually taking place inside his father's brain. Bernard has one chance to save the dying side of his father's creative brain from the tyrannical left side. Book Title: Brainwalker
Author: Robyn Mundell & Stephan Lacast
Format: Ebook

Book Title:
The title of the book ' Brainwalker ' is interesting and mysterious.

Book Cover:
The cover image of the book is absolutely enchanting with a small boy wandering inside a brain with all nerves around.

Plot:
Bernard, a young boy with very little impulse control with an interest in science lives with his Dad after his Mother died in a science experiment accident. His Dad is very left-brained, cold, organized, scientific. Whereas his Mother was very right-brained, creative, risk-taking, experimental. Bernard sits in the middle. After traveling through a wormhole, he explores his Dad’s brain to find both sides of his brain, Intuit (Right Brain) and Reezon (Left Brain) are in a war. The brain’s life source, or Energeia, is running low and it’s up to Bernard to save his Dad.

The human brain is as vast and complex as the galaxy we live in, so it’s amazing to think that there could be a whole world in our brains. The authors have created a new world inside the brain itself and thus making Bernard a very real character. According to me, the story would have been better if Bernard’s adventure in his Dad’s Brainiverse would be alternated with doctors trying to save him. So we could see how Bernard’s actions are affecting his Dad’s brain. It would have made it all a bit more real. At times we got a little lost in the Brainiverse and forgot it was a real brain they were in. Well, it's a fiction and thus I had to settle down with the same fact.

What I like:
1. The storyline
2. The scope of imagination the character Bernard is dealt with is absolutely fantastic.
3. The adventure is very realistic.

What I didn't like:
1. At some places, the story was falling flat and boring.

Characters:
All the characters in the story are plotted very well.

Narration:
Though I am not a big fan of science fiction, this book where it solely talks about the human brain and its manipulation, I found the book to be an interesting read.

Language & Grammar:
Very fine and easy language with good grammar the book appeals to many readers and especially teenagers.

My Final Verdict:
Take a chance to see what your dad thinks, in his brain literally!

I believe I just read the book which will rekindle my son’s love of reading. This story of adventure speaks to science lovers of all ages.

Bernard’s 8th grade science class has been tasked with choosing a science project. Bernard loves science so naming his project should be easy. Unfortunately, his teacher is less than thrilled with his unrealistic idea.

What is a curious boy supposed to do? He can’t help himself. His brain is filled with questions others don’t have the patience to answer, especially since his number one mentor and mother recently passed away. His dad’s patience seems to have waned, as well.

I love how we’re able to imagine the driving force inside different personality types. We followed Bernard as he learned in inner-workings of the brain first-hand. Mental energy is vital in keeping the brain healthy. Exercising creativity and reasoning are necessary to keep the brain muscles balanced.

Brainwalker has a distinct Wizard of Oz feel but instead of traveling to the land of munchkins, Bernard travels to the world of Holons, Intuits, and Reezons. Evil needs to be vanquished and lessons need to be learned.

I wonder if we'll ever know the owner of the mysterious voice heard at the end? ( )

Brainwalker is a clever and fun book that takes the middle grade reader or teen reader on a wild ride into a world inside a brain! A boy that can't seem to stay out of trouble goes to work with his scientist dad and things go sideways from there! Some crazy way his mind gets out in his dad's brain. But the kid isn't alone there, he meets several characters in the Brainverse. He has to help these characters to save his dad! ( )

Overall, I enjoyed this book but it does start off a little slow. I think that the characters are spot on, especially with how they handle grief after the loss of a loved one. Bernard has trouble in school and feels the loss of his mom because she supported him and his ideas. He’s also lost his dad in a way because his dad is grieving too and isn’t there for his son like he should be. The fact that the school or his dad isn’t always very understanding seems true to life because far too many people think grieving happens the same way for everyone and that you should hurry up and be done with it.

I didn’t like that Bernard was so outright disrespectful if safety when he was at his dad’s work. I don’t care how his mom conducted her own experiments - I think a child of scientists might be just a tad more careful.

I loved all the science and descriptions of science, and I think that makes this a good choice for the young scientists in your life. I like that Bernard gets to help his dad in a unique way and I hope that not only means his dad will be ok but that they will be better as a family. I don’t want to spoil anything but the imagery is done well, especially Bernard’s time in his dad’s brain - the scenery/location, if you will, is created with a lot of thought and is creative.

The book ended a bit abruptly for me. I’d like a better feel for how things are and will be.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Although this book is aimed at a younger teen, it was a fascinating journey through the brain of Bernard's father. I always knew that the two halves of the brain were at odds with one another, but this book takes it to a whole new level.

I felt like an explorer marveling at new and never before seen sights. The imagination and creativity behind this book is mind blowing. Cudos to Robyn and Stephen. It is an amazing journey.

It was wonderful to see how they portrayed the creative and analytical sides of the brain. I was sucked in form the first page and lived every part of this book with Bernard and Basilides.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this amazing book. ( )
