A jackass whines to anyone who will listen about how crappy his life is -- like his four-year-old who cries constantly about the monster in his closet -- while trying to rationalize his self-sabotaging ways. Short and unpleasant, but effective. ( ) Note: I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The main problem with this volume is that it feels like it ends too quickly. An obstacle is established and you learn some back story and some character traits and then it's over. For what is there, though, it is rock solid. This one will just need some time to fill out. The book is promoted in the horror genre, but somehow I felt that it has a psychological side. Jamie’s character is trying to hold many things inside her heart. She is enduring all this herself at a tender age. The plot is nice but I think the story can be fully understood only after reading the full series. Graphics quality is good. I would like to give it 3 stars. Thanks to Edelweiss and Image Comics for providing me an opportunity to read and review the book. Thom is moving his family cross country. So, when his four-year-old son, Jamie, claims there is a monster in his closet, Thom reassures him it will stay all the way in the apartment after they move. But Thom is very wrong (about a lot of things) and the monster keeps managing to open doors to Jamie’s terrified world. I’ve been grabbing anything with James Tynion IV's name on it since I read the first issue of Something Is Killing the Children. I’m not really into horror novels, but I’ve been really enjoying Tynion’s graphic novels. These first three issues though are for sure the starting of the series as it’s a lot of Thom talking with a lot of random side characters about his life leading up to this point and how he got there. It’s actually not too much about Jamie, since Thom is in his own world of problems. Overall, I’m ready for a new series to begin and can’t wait to get my hands on the next issues.
