Review: 3 stars

General: I think this book did an absolutely fantastic job of world building. It was a wonderful fantasy from start to finish. There is heavy religious undertones as a heads up to any who may not be comfortable with such subtext, but I am not religious and had no issue with it. It was a touch confusing not knowing some of the references but it was still a wonderful journey watching as the war in Heaven moved down to earth and to see yet another take on Nephlim.

While I loved the storyline itself I had two fundamental issues that lead to a lower rating. The first was in the first 3-5 chapters the POV skipped around so often I was confused in many sections as to who was narrating. Due to that it caused me to have some problems distinguishing the characters in The Seven, apart. As time progressed forward in the novel I had trouble connecting with the characters because of it and wasn’t as invested in the story as I could have been.

Characaters: The Seven angels in this book are slight mirror images of each other. Being angels this made sense to me, it is often implied that share a personality and do not differ greatly. While it helped their “race” it made it harder for me to feel a connection so I will only outline the 3 I felt had the greatest separation of traits in order to give the most accurate description of how I felt of them as characters.

Sera: Sera was my favorite. She was the most expressive of the angels from my take. She truly loved who she was and her mate Gant. She was very free of spirit and caring in a different way than the other 6.

Forom: He was every bit the male alpha leader a reader needs in a fantasy. Strong, bold and authoritative it was easy to see his command over his seven as well as feel an attachment to him as you come to feel he had the most to lose throughout the entire war in this particular installment.

Volot: I enjoyed his sense of humor. He was certainly the “bad ass” of the book if their was one. Not afraid to voice his opinions or his emotions he was quite an entertainment to read.

Seven angel warriors find their way to Earth after escaping the war in Heaven. Captain Fomor leads his squadron on their endeavor on Earth. They end up in a village where they begin to form relationships with the humans making it their new home.

Unfortunately, they cannot escape the war it has found its way to Earth. The Fallen angels are making humans their prey, and it is up to warriors and their new family to save them.

C. L. Roman’s first novel in the Rephaim series is a success. It is well-written and packed with excitement. This thought-provoking novel is an enjoyable read. If you enjoy battles between good and evil, romance, and action this is the perfect novel.
