I can't imagine how Brando Skyhorse managed to get as far as he did with the abuse his mother poured on him. My father passed when I was seven, and my mother sadly raised us as well as she knew how. It was our family secret, the sadness , yelling, anger, but nothing like this.
I read until I couldn't. At least one of his "fathers" showed a long term interest in him. Even then, young Brando was a mess of emotions and confusion.

This is one weird book. It is an exercise in the title character coming to terms with her identity under difficult circumstances. I didn't like it but finished it to see how it could be ended.

When shopping with her daughter, many people think Iris is a nanny to Melanie because Melanie ha lighter skin. Yes, life for darker skinned individuals remains difficult, but Iris goes too far in her derogatory saga. Omit the multitude of Spanish if this book is intended for English speaking readers.… (més)
